Join Polocrosse

Yesterday’s Facebook memories of Secret got me thinking. In 2004, we were heavily and successfully involved in Arabian Showing, dressage and Pony Club which I loved. Charlie Lund and I went to watch the Barastoc Interestate Polocrosse competition at Warwick Morgan Park. Within about five minutes, ten-year old Charlie said, “that’s what we need to do!!” This set in motion the next twenty years of pivoting our horse journey to the great sport of polocrosse. For many years, we fitted it in around other interests, using the horses we already had. We were fortunate to join the wonderful Cunningham club where we met lifelong friends.

Over the past few years, we have started buying and breeding horses bred for the sport of polocrosse. We are very much enjoying this new direction and have long term goals, but what drew us to polocrosse remains the same. The excitement of the sport is second to none. The community is amazing. The horsemanship is phenomenal. The skills have grown immensely since we started twenty years ago. While this has been amazing for the sport of polocrosse, I believe it has made it harder for beginners to start out.

This year, the Queensland Polocrosse Association listened to Toowoomba Polocrosse Club members Jo and Nicole who pointed out how challenging it is for beginners to come into the sport. As a result, the Fun Grade was trialled with great success. I very much enjoyed being part of the Toowoomba Club this year and helping with the initiative.

I would love to see more of my horsey friends come and have a go and find out why polocrosse people become obsessed. We started Beauwood Park Equestrian Supplies three years ago to help fund our obsession and service the great polocrosse community.

Come out to Calvert for a visit and see what gear you need if you want to give it a go and join the crazy people. We’ll give any beginners a good discount and you can try before you buy.

Thinking about next season

While we are all sweltering in the Australian heatwave, you might think we would not be thinking about getting ready for next seasons. However, knowing polocrosse players as we do, we probably are. Pl
